Fuel: 30-40% of Your Costs

For most commercial fleets, fuel is the first or second largest expense, accounting for 30-40% of total operating costs. It's also the most variable and controllable line item. The most common sources of waste: • Engine idling: 3-5 liters/hour per truck. For a fleet of 20 vehicles with 1 hour average idling per day, that's $55,000 per year. • Fuel theft: particularly common on job sites and unsupervised depots. Siphoning 50 liters per week = $5,000 per year per vehicle. • Driving behavior: harsh acceleration and speeding increase consumption by 15-30%. • Unauthorized detours: extra kilometers = extra liters. • Neglected maintenance: clogged air filters or underinflated tires increase consumption by 5-10%.

How Tralogit Detects Anomalies

The Tralogit OBD device measures fuel level in real time. The system automatically distinguishes three types of events: Normal refueling (rise > 10%) Detected when fuel level increases significantly. Recorded in the vehicle's history with timestamp and location. Potential theft or leak (drop > 5%, vehicle stationary) When fuel level drops by more than 5% while the vehicle is stationary and the engine is off, an alert is sent immediately. This threshold is intentionally separate from refueling to avoid false positives. Excessive idling (engine on, speed = 0, duration > 2 minutes) Idling is detected by combining three conditions: the engine is running, speed is zero, and duration exceeds 2 minutes. Idle hours are tracked per vehicle and per driver, with the associated fuel cost.
